Build specification

Eight elements make up a body specification. Every one of them trades against payload, and the trade is worth making explicitly rather than by default.

Figures are indicative and are confirmed against your chassis and duty at quotation. A 125 mm wall on a 7.5 tonne body buys you thermal performance you may not need and costs payload you almost certainly do.

Choosing a wall thickness

75 mm

Chilled multi-drop in temperate operation, where the doors open often and the run between drops is short. Best payload.

100 mm

The default. Chilled line-haul, mixed duty, and most frozen work in southern states.

125 mm

Frozen work in the north, long stand periods, and anything carrying ice cream or pharmaceutical product with a tight excursion limit.

Payload arithmetic

Insulation, floor build-up, tail lift, refrigeration plant and fuel all come out of the same allowance. We work the sum before the order so that the vehicle is legal loaded, not just legal empty.

The quotation states unladen weight as built and the payload that leaves, against the chassis plate. If the numbers do not work we say so at quotation stage rather than at the weighbridge.
